Do I have to be thin to practice yoga?

Absolutely not! Unfortunately this seems to be the visual representation of yoga that we are given on social and other media, but we promise you that yoga is for everyone, no matter the size or shape of your body.

Once you join us, you'll see that there is plenty of wonderful body variation in our community. We give lots of options for different movements, so you can find what suits you, and we always encourage you to move in ways that feel good in your body, even if it differs from what we're offering.

Detoxing from diet culture and fatphobia, or recovering from an eating disorder? You're safe with us. You’ll never see us offer a ‘weight loss challenge’, or encourage you to lose weight or ‘get a summer body’ at our studio. Weigh-ins, restriction and dieting is just not what we do.

We’re here to help you feel good because your practice helps your body feel strong and capable, not because it takes up less space.
We’re here to help you feel mentally well, because your practice gives you skills for down-regulating your nervous system and developing your interoception skills, not because of an arbitrary number on the scale.
We’re here to help you feel part of a community, no matter your size or shape.
We know the facts - that weight alone isn’t a good indicator of health, and that restrictive dieting has the potential to create long-term disordered eating habits.

And that food is not the enemy - it is to be enjoyed as part of a full, rich and vibrant life.

So, we won’t ever run ‘summer body’ challenges, with rewards for dangerous and disordered behaviours. We will continue to do what we’ve always done:
  • teaching you skills to improve your physical and mental wellbeing
  • having a giggle with you, never taking ourselves too seriously
  • giving you a place of support and safety when you need to laugh, vent or cry
  • surrounding you with other like-minded souls
  • sharing a delicious cupcake or doughnut with you, without any guilt or moral judgements
It takes time and work to let go of diet culture and fatphobia, and we’re still on this journey ourselves. If you ever have feedback for how we can make our space even safer and more comfortable for you, please let us know.
